Hi!
I’m Lydia and I am a trained recovery coach with lived experience in using alcohol to cope with perimenopause.
Before perimenopause shook my world, I would have called myself a “normal” drinker. But things changed when I entered perimenopause and it was hard to drown out the hollow feeling of losing who I was. The casual drinking slipped quietly into something I relied on to get through life.
After rabbit-holing online for any link between perimenopause and increased alcohol use, I started finding studies that suggested there could be a link between the two topics. What’s more, a late diagnosis of ADHD also turns up as part of the story, complicating the emotional dysregulation that accompanies perimenopause.
Mapping my own journey helped me shift from asking “What’s wrong with me?” to understanding “What happened to me?” That change in perspective was freeing and gave me a clearer path to recovery.
I’m twice-certified in personal development coaching and trained in recovery coaching, and I now focus on supporting women who are using alcohol to cope with perimenopause.
My approach blends practical tools, compassionate support, and realistic options that fit into your life. There are ways to find recovery, build resilience, and reclaim your sense of self without draining your time and energy.
This is why Flourish in Midlife exists: I believe women in midlife addiction deserve recovery.
What is a Recovery Coach?
As a member of Recovery Coaches Canada, I follow its definition of a recovery coach:
Recovery coaches are a trained professionals who partner with people seeking to initiate, strengthen, or sustain their recovery. Recovery coaches believe in your capacity for change. We support your autonomy and hold space for you to make your own choices. Recovery coaches aren’t your 12-step sponsor, therapist, or friend; we are your teammate. We offer consistent, non-judgmental support and may help you consider additional resources or professional referrals if needed.
There are many ways a recovery coach can help you in your recovery, including:
creating a plan for your recovery
offering support
helping identify your strengths and values
providing accountability as you reach your goals
stocking your personal tool box to set you up for success in your recovery.
